John Miles (21), Gold Leaf Lotus-Ford 72A, Jochen Rindt (20), Gold Leaf Lotus-Ford 49C & Jack Brabham’s (18) Brabham-Ford BT33, 1970 Belgian Grand Prix, Francorchamps
the last Grand Prix to be held at the infamous long version of the Francorchamps track
it was a return to the track after the drivers’ strike in ‘69, but it was deemed too dangerous & the race direction wouldn’t budge towards the drivers’ demands
no Grand Prix was held in ‘71 but in ‘72 it was run on the new & very modern track at Nivelles & at the Terlaemen track in Zolder the year after
it was meant to switch between Wallonnia & Flanders every year, but in ‘75 Zolder would permanently take over from Nivelles (because of mismanagement)
in ‘83 Francorchamps was back on the calendar & in ‘85 it would take over completely
since ‘85 it has been permanently on the FIA calendar with the exception of ‘03 (problems with the local tobacco law) & ‘06 (major track works)
Bernie ruined it…
